In 1949, he received a scholarship to study in Paris. 07:40 And then he joined the Marxist groups in Paris. 07:44 He became heavily involved with the French Communist Party. 07:48 He read the works of Karl Marx. 07:50 Lenin, Stalin, and became convinced that Cambodia's future lay in a radical communist revolution. 08:00 Ironically, this Western influence played a significant role in shaping the anti-Western ideology he would later impose so violently. Think about that sentence. 08:09 freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of reading any book he wanted. That helped shape the anti-Western ideology he would later impose so violently. Now, the Khmer Rouge meant red scarves. They were the young people, the young people who were brainwashed by the Marxist leaders. 09:28 And they capitalized on the political instability in Cambodia to rise, just as the political instability in America today is permitting unknown pieces of human trash to rise from the mud and rise up not like lotuses in the muck, but like toxic plants. 09:56 Just days after taking power in April 1975, the Khmer Rouge forced the evacuation of Phnom Penh, the capital, and other urban areas. 10:05 Millions of people, many of them sick, elderly, or children, were forced to march into the countryside to work in collective farms. Collective farms, emphasis on the word collective. 10:17 When this bearded, smirking piece of garbage won, he said, you will feel the warmth of collectivism. 10:25 You didn't hear the word collectivism in there. He was telling you he was a communist. He said it over and over again. He waved the red flag in your face. 10:33 The pot-smoking morons, mainly white, liberal, stupid girls, cheered him on, this handsome devil. But what was the goal of Pol Pot? What is the goal of the democratic socialists? You could put all of them now, the whole leadership of the Democrat Socialist Party, including these nobodies who just won, could be put in one plane and sent to Uganda. 12:09 Get rid of them now before they spread the cancer. 12:12 Pol Pot and Mom Donnie and Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren all believed that to build a true communist utopia, society had to be destroyed and rebuilt from scratch. 12:25 So what did they do? 12:27 Under his regime, money was abolished, banks were shut down, and all private property was seized. 12:35 Now they haven't done that yet, but it doesn't start like that overnight. 12:40 Religious practices, notably Buddhism, which had deep roots in Cambodian culture, was banned. 12:46 Monks were defrocked, temples destroyed, and religious leaders executed. He was copying the playbook of the Bolsheviks in Russia, who did the same thing to the Christians and to the Jews. 12:57 Religion was banned, religious leaders were imprisoned and executed in Russia, and this little did the same thing in Cambodia. If you wore glasses, you spoke a foreign language or you had soft hands, anything that suggested literacy or an urban background could be a death sentence in Cambodia. 13:21 And so what did the Khmer Rouge do? 13:25 They established thousands of prisons and execution sites across the country. 13:30 Intellectuals, professionals, And others, mainly government officials, loyal members of the Khmer Rouge, even suspected of disloyalty, were targeted. Anyone who was a moderate was targeted. 13:44 Entire families were executed to prevent retaliation. 13:48 This is all a fact of life. These are all facts of life that I'm telling you. 13:54 Go to the Genocide Museum in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and you'll see what Mamdami and Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders have in mind for this country and for you. 14:03 Despite leading a regime that demanded absolute obedience, Pol Pot himself was rather elusive. 14:10 People didn't even know what he looked like. He hid. 14:13 He was simply called brother number one. 14:17 Most people didn't know who was really in charge of Cambodia. 14:22 He was afraid they would execute him. 14:25 Unfortunately, no one got to him and killed him in time. 14:30 Eventually, his paranoia extended into his own ranks. Even within the party, he kept tight control through secrecy and fear like Stalin, regularly purging those he suspected of disloyalty. 14:42 The secrecy enabled him to maintain power while spreading paranoia throughout his own regime's ranks. He copied Stalin's playbook. 14:51 Despite being responsible for the deaths of up to two million people in a rather small country, Pol Pot was never brought to justice. After being overthrown by Vietnamese forces in 1979, he fled to the jungle and continued to lead a weakened Khmer Rouge insurgency for years. In the 1980s and early 1990s, Cold War politics meant that some Western and regional powers, most notably China and even the United States, supported the Khmer Rouge in exile in order to counter Vietnamese influence in Southeast Asia. 15:23 He had friends in high places. 15:25 Finally, in 1997, Pol Pot was arrested by Khmer Rouge defectors and placed under house arrest. A year later, in April 1998, this evil Pol Pot died of a reported heart attack. He was never formally tried to punish for his crimes. 15:41 After his death, people asked questions. 15:45 They didn't understand how this could have happened in Cambodia. 15:49 How could such a genocide have occurred? How could crimes against humanity have been institutionalized, turned into a factory? 15:59 How did this happen? 16:01 How does nation go to pieces when a simple man went to Paris, studied communism, and came back to Cambodia and introduced Marxism? 16:16 Right now we have open Marxists in high places in America. Every one of them must be criminalized and deported. I'm not mincing words. I don't care what the courts say. We have to override the courts. I'm calling for that right now on the show. So I've talked about borders. Every nation is defined by a border, whether it's a small nation in the Caribbean. Go to Trinidad, Tobago, Jamaica. They're all defined by their borders, language, and culture. They understand that. I never made a nickel off this book. What's interesting about this book, this show is almost like my swan song. What's interesting about this book is that this was originally my PhD dissertation at the University of California at Berkeley. 43:26 And it was so important that the United Nations at the time And I was told it was the first book they ever published. It wasn't under this title. It was something else. I don't remember it. They took my dissertation and turned it into a book. And then an Indian merchant in Suva stole my book, put a new title on it, stole all the money from it. I don't even know who he is. 43:49 I worked for years to put this book together, and I did it for the Vigian people. 43:54 And then I did it for humanity, the greater humanity as a whole. The wound healed. 45:30 So that was mavoa, for example, bad wounds that won't heal. Bad wounds that won't heal. 45:36 These are some of the beautiful people that gave me their remedies. Look at this woman's face. 45:42 Look at the soul of this woman. AI could never create a face like this. 45:48 I know humanity. 45:50 I know people. 45:52 Look at this woman. I remember to this day, Mrs. Whippy Healer, descendant of an English sea captain and Fijian mother, Ovalau, 1972. 46:03 Look at the healing hands of Mrs. Whippy. 46:06 That would have been a nice book cover. Isn't that beautiful? 46:10 You talk about culture. 46:13 I got chills up my spine when I show these pictures. 46:17 Here's Riteya Bruh. 46:19 She divulged her remedies one day before her death on Vanua Levu in 1971. 46:25 They wouldn't share these remedies with their own people in the villages because it was their entire power in the village was the healing power. They had these lists that were handed out to them by their grandmothers and their mothers. 46:42 And so they wouldn't share them. This was their power, their strength. 46:45 But when I explained to them that I wasn't taking it for personal gain, it was to save that knowledge for their children's children and maybe in the world to help the world, they then agreed to share me. So this woman, Retea Baio, came one more. She said, come back tomorrow morning. I sat with her for all day and she read one plant after the other. 47:08 and I recorded the names and I wrote the names down and then we went and collected the plants and we dried the plants. 47:15 We made seven specimens of each plant in the herbarium press and brought them back to Honolulu and sent them out to the world. That's how it's done. You collect seven of each species and you send them to the seven different herbarium that wanted them. So maybe in the future, Some scientists will look at some of the plants in this book, in the herbariums themselves, and they'll say, that's an interesting one. 47:45 He said, they use this to treat, what, cancer? 47:51 Relieving pain in the joints. 47:53 Glochidion chordatum, small, many-branched shrub found in Fiji, liquid pressed from the stem as utilized and relieving pain in the joints. 48:01 See, this is culture. 48:03 This is culture.
